Central Minnesota Softball: Pierz to open playoffs at Rocori, Holdingford at Cathedral

Pierz concluded Central Minnesota Conference play at first-place Maple Lake, Tuesday, falling 7-1 and 13-3.

In the opening game, sophomore Lizzie Carson went 2-for-2 with a double and junior Shelbie Boser singled home junior Sammi Gross with the team’s lone run.

In game two, senior Tiara Hopkins and freshman Brianna Meyer each went 3-for-3 and junior Katelyn Waytashek doubled.

The Pioneers received the sixth seed in Sub-Section 6AA East and will open the playoffs this week at third-seeded Rocori, Monday.

 

Rockets shut out Pierz twice

Pierz ran into a pair of top-end pitchers, May 9, getting shut out 6-0 and 2-0 by visiting Rockford Area.

Waytashek doubled for the Pioneers’ only hit in game one and followed by going 2-for-3 in game two against the Rockets.

 

Holdingford drops five

Holdingford’s schedule didn’t let up at all as it approached the end of the regular season, meeting up with the top three teams in the conference in succession.

Holdingford fell 13-0 and 20-0 at Maple Lake, May 9, 14-11 at Eden Valley-Watkins, Monday and 4-0 and 4-2 at Rockford Area, Tuesday.

 

Playoff schedule

Monday’s winner between Pierz and Rocori will advance to take on the winner between No. 2 Milaca and No. 7 Foley in Waite Park, Tuesday.

Holdingford received the eighth seed and will travel to No. 1 St. Cloud Cathedral, Monday.

The winner will advance to take on the winner between No. 4 Albany and No. 5 Little Falls in Waite Park, Tuesday.

Teams that advance past the first round will enter the double elimination portion of section play and will then compete in the sub-section finals or consolation first round in Waite Park, Thursday.
