Obit-Smith-Louis-formattedLouis Nook Smith, 95-year-old resident of Little Falls, formerly of Emily, died Monday, May 26, 2014, at St. Ottos Care Center in Little Falls.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31 at 10:00 A.M. at Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, MN with Father Nicholas Landsberger. A visitation will be held Friday, May 30 from 5:00-8:00 PM and from 8:30-9:30 AM on Saturday at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls, MN. The burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.
Louis V. Smith was born Nov. 3, 1918, in Little Falls, to the late Philip and Louise (Geaundro) Smith. He grew up in Little Falls and graduated with the class of 1936 from Little Falls Community High School. Louis was a Merchant Marine during World War II, serving in the Atlantic and the Artic Oceans. Louie worked on the Iron Ore Boats on the Great Lakes for the Bethlehem Steel Company. He was united in marriage to Kathy (Olson) Dickerson in 1978 and the couple divorced in 1991. Louie loved to travel taking trips to France, Norway, Scotland, Ireland and Cape Town South Africa. He most recently traveled throughout Minnesota and Colorado. Louis took great pride in his daily attire always wearing dress clothes and jewelry to match. He enjoyed his visits with the residents and staff at St. Ottos Care Center in Little Falls. He was known to play the penny slot machines at Northern Lights Casino in Walker and would love to take the stage and sing karaoke. Louis loved eating out especially Chinese, Mexican and the Wharf restaurant. In his later years, he enjoyed working to stay physically fit, especially arm raises.
Left to cherish his memory are his cousins, Robert Miller of Ft. Ripley, Arlene Isom of Little Falls, Rick Heurung of St. Cloud, Vic (Ginger) Heurung of Brainerd, Alicia Isom of St. Cloud, Nick Tabatt of Little Falls, Kylee, Taylor and Brielle Heurung, Alyssa and Riley Heurung and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Louise; and cousin, Ashley Isom.
