Sporting all but one underclassman, the Little Falls program took another step forward this week, reaching the second round of the Section 6AA tournament held in Sartell, Monday – Tuesday.
The Flyers opened the tournament with a score of 348, good enough to hold off Melrose Area’s 355 and Zimmerman’s 358 and advance to day two.
There, Little Falls knocked another seven strokes off its score with a total of 341, finishing in fourth place.
The top individual performer for the Flyers was junior Kyler Erdman.
Erdman turned in a first-round score of 82, followed with an 84 for a total of 166 to finish 10th overall, just four strokes off of the state qualifying pace.
Junior Michael Orr was close behind with a 169, as was junior Josh DeCann with a 176.
Senior Nathan Hoffman (183), junior Landon Atkinson (184) and sophomore Landon Bjorge (187) rounded out the lineup.
Staples Motley was the team champion with a score of 628, followed by St. Cloud Cathedral (653), Becker (677) and the Flyers.
The Flyers also finished the season third in the Granite Ridge Conference.
Kyle Hemple and Hoffman were the seniors on this year’s roster.
Rocheleau leads Pierz
Junior Josh Rocheleau shot a 96 to lead Pierz at the first day of the tournament.
Freshman Nathan Poster followed with a 107 and sophomore Hunter Bednar had a 128.
Pierz finished the season in seventh place in the Central Minnesota Conference and did not have any seniors on this year’s roster.
