Thank you letters for June 15

To the Editor:

A huge thank you to the Pierz community for the support during our youth baseball tournament. We successfully hosted 38 youth teams even with a little rain. We couldn’t have done it without the help at Legion Park, Genola Ballpark, school custodians, Fire Department, Virnig Manufacturing’s ice cream machine, Bernicks Pepsi, Pierz Coop, business sponsors, the girls who helped with concessions, all the parents and fans.  — Sarah Funk, Pierz Youth Baseball Club

To the Editor:

Thank you to Sen. Paul Gazelka for his leadership to ensure a strong and prosperous Minnesota. He fought to keep Minnesota’s economy competitive by opposing new laws that will increase costs for employers, limiting their ability to expand operations, increase jobs and grow in Minnesota. With single-party control of the Legislature and Governor’s office, many new employer mandates, new regulations and higher taxes have been passed into law. Minnesota recently slipped to 49th worst in the nation for the 2014 Small Business Tax Index – only California ranked lower. Taxes and costs matter. Employers make decisions about where they want to expand and grow based on these important economic considerations. We are grateful that Sen. Gazelka understands this and works to make Minnesota as competitive as possible. — Laura Bordelon, senior vice president for advocacy at the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, St. Paul.
