Brooke Westrich was named the Upsala High School (UHS) Senior Student of the Month for May. She is the daughter of Mike and Alice Westrich and the sister of Brad, Beth, Brianna, Bennett and Bryce.
Westrich is very involved in student activities at UHS as a member of the FFA, Student Council, Drama Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She is also a member of the volleyball, basketball and track teams. She has been on the “A” Honor Roll, has received academic recognition as a member of the UHS National Honor Society and has been selected as the Girls State Alternate.
Westrich has received team awards in volleyball and track and was named a member of the All-Prairie Conference Girls Basketball Team. She was also selected as a captain of the volleyball team and the track team.
In addition to her active involvement in school activities, Westrich is a member of the local 4-H club and has helped out with the elementary volleyball and basketball programs.
Her favorite class is college algebra she said, because, “Mrs. Hovland make the class fun.” She feels that accounting is her most valuable class because, “I can use what I learn in my everyday life.”
Track coach Jim Drill, said, “Brooke Westrich is a true role model for all athletes on and off the field. I have had the pleasure of coaching Brooke in USA track for the last five years. She has remarkable athletic ability, however, she also has the drive to push herself to the next level every day. Brooke leads through humor, humility, and example. She loves to instill words of encouragement to athletes of all ages and abilities. Brooke is a rare treasure we can all be proud of at Upsala Area School.”
In addition to her active school life, Westrich enjoys rollerblading, swimming and hanging out with friends and family. She is employed part-time at The Hub restaurant. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year college.
