Kenneth  Schommer

Kenneth Schommer, 76- year-old resident of Hillman, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN with Father David Maciej officiating and Father Greg Poser con-celebrating. Burial will take place in the St. John Nepomuk Parish Cemetery in Lastrup, MN. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz.
Ken was born on May 3, 1938, in Lastrup, to the late George and Anna (Fischer) Schommer. He grew up and attended school in the Lastrup area. Ken was employed with Adolphson and Peterson Commercial Construction in Minneapolis, from where he retired after 36 years of employment. He was united in marriage to Diane Welle, June 14, 1965, and together they raised three children, Scott, Cindy, and Shawn in Anoka. After retiring Ken and Diane moved to their home on Long Lake near Hillman. Ken enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, spending time with friends and family, and mostly he loved being a grandfather to his four grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Family Bull Dog Lake Catholic Church. Ken was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
Ken is survived by loving wife of 49 years, Diane Schommer of Hillman; children, Scott Schommer of Isanti, Cynthia (Curt) McDaniel of Ramsey and Shawn (Carmen) Schommer of Nowthen; grandchildren, Marissa McDaniel, Justin McDaniel, Colin Schommer and Mason Schommer; brothers, Norman (Janet) Schommer of Rosemount, Vernald Schommer of Cottage Grove, Marvin (Dorine) Schommer of Isanti and Milton Schommer of Ramsey; sisters, Mary Muehlbauer of Anoka, Lorraine Potter of Brooklyn Center, Alice (Gene) Baniecke of Hillman and Elaine (Bob) Litke of Burnsville.
Ken was preceded in death by parents, George and Anna Schommer; brothers, Melvin, Harlan, and George Schommer; and sisters, Lucille Rudolph and Marlene Zehnle.
