To the Editor:
Disclosure: Jim Abeler is my brother. That’s only one reason he gets my vote in the GOP U.S. Senate Primary Tuesday, Aug. 12.
Jim would win my vote no matter his last name. For one thing, he brings political experience (16 years in the House), expertise (health care, finance and education), and a strong work ethic.
What’s more, he earned his reputation for getting things done through principled collaboration. In a gridlocked country, he knows America’s huge challenges require both parties to sit down and work together. That’s how in 2011 he accomplished the biggest spending and tax cuts in Minnesota history ($3.8 billion in health and human services).
More importantly, Jim has always been a champion for people who need help. He chose health care (chiropractor). He founded a charter school. He connects with new Americans. And as a small business owner on Main Street, Anoka, he generously uses his properties to help charitable organizations succeed.
Guided by his creator, conscience and constituents’ needs, Jim Abeler has earned my trust as a leader, friend and brother. The StarTribune endorsed him as Minnesota’s best choice for the GOP U.S. Senate spot against Al Franken. So do I. — Bill Abeler, Burtrum
