Staples man charged with being a fugitive from Montana

Dean Lee Baker Jr., 34, Staples, was charged Aug. 1, in Morrison County  District Court, with being a fugitive from justice.

On April 23, a district court judge from Flathead County, Mont., issued an arrest warrant on Baker for felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs.

On July 31, Little Falls police officers responded to a report of a fight in Maple Island Park. Baker was identified and it was learned  there was a warrant for his arrest. He was placed in custody.

While Baker allegedly admitted he was the person named in the warrant and that he had lived in Montana for about six years before coming to Little Falls, he said he did not know he had a warrant for his arrest.

If convicted, Baker faces extradition to Montana.
