Anoka man sentenced to 15 months in prison in stolen car case

On Aug. 18, before Morrison County District Court Judge Douglas Anderson in Little Falls, Robert Ray Holmberg, 20 of Anoka, pleaded guilty to receiving/possessing stolen property.

On July 21, an off duty police officer from the city of Anoka spotted a Ford truck near Royalton on Highway 10. The officer knew the vehicle to be stolen and recognized the driver. Acting on the information, Holmberg was stopped by Little Falls Police a short time later.

In court, Holmberg admitted he knew the truck he was driving was stolen. Holmberg then asked Judge Anderson to execute a 15 months prison sentence.

Assistant County Attorney Todd Kosovich admitted he was surprised by Holmberg’s request.

“The Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines called for five years probation,” Kosovich said, “but a defendant always has the right to demand that his prison sentence be executed.”
