She was born to Frank and Rose Pekarek on May 5, 1939. She is one of 12 children. Mary Jane married Norbert Gapinski on June 6, 1960. Mary Jane loved to play cards, especially 500. She baked and decorated cakes for many years, gardened, cooked and canned and loved watching the Twins with a highlight of going to one of the World Series games in 1987. She also loved going to the casino with her friends. Mary Jane retired from Foley High School as the head cook in 1999 after over 25 years of service. She was an active member of St. Elizabeths Catholic Church.

She also leaves behind her six sisters, one brother, brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and friends.
Her broken heart never fully healed when her daughter Pam and husband died in 1981. Other family members that left before her are both her parents and four siblings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at St. Elizabeths Catholic Church, Brennyville where she was a member for most of her life.
Friends may call from 10:30 to 1:30 Thursday at the church in Brennyville. Arrangements were made by the Foley Funeral Home.
