Pauline Leona Spiczka was born June 28, 1924 in Gilman, to the late Warrant and Veronica (Smelter) Spiczka. She was a twin and the youngest of 11 children, with the other 10 children being boys. Pauline grew up on the family farm near Gilman. At the age of 19, she traveled to California to live with her brother, Joe. While in California, Pauline became a welder on ships being built during World War II. Pauline was united in marriage to Louis G. Nash July 31, 1945, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman. They bought a farm by Lastrup in 1950, where they raised nine children. Pauline was a hard worker and was active in all aspects of running the farm. Her primary duties were in the barn where she did the milking, as well as fieldwork and taking care of her vegetable garden. She made sure all her children were involved in the work as well. Louis passed away in 1987 and Pauline continued to operate the farm for several years after. In August of 2004, Harmony House in Pierz, became her home. Pauline loved her residence there and stayed active, and the staff equally enjoyed their new resident. Pauline enjoyed playing bingo and cards, as well as doing the Search a Word puzzles. She looked forward to family gatherings and the holidays, doing the cooking and baking. Her home was always open to visits by family and friends. Pauline also sewed, crocheted and embroidered in her younger years. She was a long time member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Lastrup.
