Habitat motorcycle ride slated for Sept. 20

The 10th annual “Hammerin’ the Highway for Habitat” ride is being held Sept. 20, starting and ending at the Red Rooster Bar and Grill in Genola/Pierz.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. and the ride begins promptly at 11:30 a.m. A lunch stop will be made at Red’s Irish Pub in Swanville.

Riders can prepare to see some of the scenery along the way, including the lakes that help make Minnesota famous, through a cathedral of native Minnesota white pines on Lake Alexander, cruise past the stately gates of Camp Ripley and Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery and much more.

The bikers will return back to the Red Rooster at approximately 5:30 p.m., where a pig roast meal, silent and live auction, raffle drawing and live music round out the evening’s activities.

The public is invited to join in the cash raffle, silent and live auction.

“We’re looking forward to building on last year’s ride. We really appreciate the local people and businesses that supported us by joining in the festivities,” said Jim Molitor, ride committee member.

For out-of-town guests needing accommodations, there are bed and breakfast, motel, RV parks and campsites nearby.

“One way for people to support the ride without riding would be to make a donation for the silent or live auction, or door prizes,” said Kathy Kahlhamer with Habitat for Humanity and ride committee.
