A three-run first inning was almost all the Pierz Pioneers baseball team needed to earn a win over section rival
Little Falls, April 2.
Pierz added two more in the third and another in the sixth to earn a 6-3 victory at Legion Field in Pierz.
Senior Cody Meyer was superb for the Pioneers on both the mound and at the plate.
Meyer scattered two hits, and allowed just one run in five innings of work, earning the win.
At the dish, Meyer went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Lane Girtz, Noah Boser and David Skiba each had two hits and an RBI in the victory as well. Michael Meyer had a hit, a stolen base and a run scored.
“I was very pleased how we played our first game,” said Pierz head coach Danny Saehr. “The kids did a lot of good things against a good Little Falls team.”
Adam Hallberg was the pitcher of record for Little Falls after lasting one inning
and allowing three earned runs as the Pioneers hit around the lineup.
Thomas Miller pitched four innings of relief and allowed two runs, one earned.
Daniel Marod led the offense for the Flyers, as he clubbed two doubles and scored two runs. Bryce Zawatzke, the Flyers’ senior first baseman, went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Pierz also played in Albany, Friday and the Flyers hosted Cathedral Thursday, but results were unavailable by press time.
Pierz’ next game will be Monday, when they host Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. Little Falls will travel to Foley, Tuesday.
