Little Falls’ VFW baseball team is still rolling, winning four of its last six games with the playoffs approaching.
The Flyers VFW first split with St. Cloud Blue (Cathedral), July 14.
Little Falls won the first game 4-2.
Thomas Kunkel tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits.
Mason Dempsey was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Jake Kapphahn also had three hits and scored twice.
In game two, the Flyers fell 4-1. Ben Sowada drove in Gavin Jasmer for the only Little Falls run.
Little Falls continued the action against rival Pierz in a doubleheader, Monday.
The Flyers swept Pierz, winning 6-4 and 5-2.
In game one, Little Falls won after three runs in the top of the seventh put them on top.
Joe Alholm had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run.
Game two was directed by Jasmer’s play. He pitched all five innings, allowing five hits, two runs and striking out five. He also scored and drove in a run.
Kapphahn also scored twice.
The Flyers split again, Tuesday, against Cold Spring.
Game one went to Cold Spring, 10-2.
Anthony Vetter had an RBI double in the loss.
Little Falls bounced back to win 6-5.
Sowada drove in Kapphahn for the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Little Falls is now 15-9 and 8-4 league play.
The sub-district playoffs start Monday in Little Falls.
