Rutten wins 100th match as Flyers close regular season

A pair of losses in a triangular by the Little Falls wrestling team, Feb. 9, ended the team’s regular season.

The Flyers were beaten by section foes in Sartell.

Little Falls first lost, 39-27, to Willmar, who is ranked No. 8 in Class AAA.

The Flyers trailed 27-0, but rallied back to within six, but fell.

Seniors Josh Beack (152), Grant Litke (170) and AJ Jenks (182) all won with pins.

In the second match, the Flyers were bested by the host Sabres, 41-36.

Little Falls led, 24-22, at one point, and were as close as 38-36 late in the match, but were defeated.

Dakota Kern (132), seniors Leo Wilczek (138), Lane Rutten (145), Beack, Litke and Billy Winkelman (220) all won via fall.

Rutten also won in the match against Willmar, beating Bryce Erickson 12-5. The victory was the 100th of his career.

The Flyers took part in the team portion of the Section 8AAA Meet, Saturday, Feb. 18, but results were unavailable by press time.

The individual section meet will be at Alexandria, Friday.

In other wrestling action, Tuesday, the Royalton-Upsala wrestling team was bested, 37-36, by Long Prairie-Grey Eagle-Browerville to end the team season.

Holdingford was also bested in the Section 5A Tournament, falling, 30-45, to No. 7 New London-Spicer.
