Pierz basketball season ends in loss to Huskers

A 31-point effort from senior Matt Tautges was not nearly enough as the Pierz boys basketball team ended the regular season with a 79-56 loss to Holdingford, March 3.

The Huskers scored 49 first-half points to take a 23-point lead at the break.

Freshman Peter Schommer added seven points and nine rebounds for the Pioneers.

Holdingford clinched the Central Minnesota Conference title with the victory, improving them to 13-1 in CMC play and 22-4 overall to close out the regular season.

Pierz finished the regular season at 3-23.

The Pioneers traveled to play top-seeded Cathedral in the Section 6AA East quarterfinals, Thursday.

Holdingford hosted No. 6 St. John’s Prep, Thursday in a Section 6AA West quarterfinal.
