Swanville edges Royalton

An epic Prairie Conference boys basketball match up closed out the regular season for Royalton and Swanville,

The host Royals were out played by Swanville in the opening half, as the Royals struggled from the field, and trailed 32-23 at the break.

However, Royalton battled back, inching closer, until they had a chance to tie or win with 4.3 seconds left, trailing by two.

The Royals could not get a shot off, and the Bulldogs came away with a win to end the regular season.

Lawrence Mettler paced Swanville with 15 points. Travis Barthel added a dozen points.

Royalton’s leader was sophomore Zach Gottwalt, who had 21 points and six rebounds. Gavin Suska added nine points.

The playoffs began for both teams late Thursday evening, but results weren’t available by deadlines.

Royalton (9-15) traveled to take on No. 2 Sauk Centre in the Section 6AA West quarterfinal.

Swanville (10-13) hosted No. 6 Upsala (3-23) in the Section 5A South quarterfinal.
