Bulldogs move past Cardinals in quarterfinal

The Swanville Bulldogs won the battle of Prairie Conference and Section 5A South neighbors in the quarterfinal,

Though the Cardinals of Upsala scrapped, the Bulldogs came out on top, 84-65.

The two teams were tied at 12 at one point in the first half, but Swanville maintained a lead throughout most of the half after that, including a 37-31 halftime lead.

A size advantage for the Bulldogs inside led to a 51-35 lead with 14:30 to go in the second half.

Upsala was never able to dig themselves out of the hole.

Swanville senior Bennett Primus scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Upsala was led by sophomore Jorgan Kiley, who scored 22 points.

Cardinals senior Myron Ripplinger, and Swanville seniors Cole Pfeiffer and Charlie Kurowski all netted 14 points.

The loss ended the Cardinals season at 3-24.

Swanville went on to the semifinals against top-seeded Kimball, Saturday, March 11.

Despite a tight game from the jump, the Bulldogs fell 53-48 to the Cubs.

Swanville trailed 27-22 at halftime, and played even with the Cubs in the second half, but could not make up the deficit.

Junior guard Lawrence Mettler had a team-best 16 points.

Primus added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Swanville finishes the season at 11-14 overall.

The Bulldogs graduate seven players including: Primus, Kurowski, Pfeiffer, Levi
Beseman, Travis Barthel, Jarick Rieffer and Troy Evans.

Upsala graduates three seniors, Myron and Andy Ripplinger and Parker Barth.
