Blackhawks train for firefighting at Camp Ripley

Four Blackhawk helicopter crews from St. Cloud and St. Paul partnered with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Camp Ripley April 8 for training in putting out wildfires using 640 gallon buckets attached to the helicopters. Shawn Olsen with the DNR, who served as a liaison with the Guard at the event, said the helicopters respond to fires not only in Minnesota, but across the country. The training was held throughout the week, with crews practicing hitting targets, before putting out controlled burns for the finale.
