Area sports roundup: May 10

The True Team section contests were last night and a pair of area teams have advanced to the True Team state meet in Stillwater, May 20.

For the third year in a row the Pierz girls earned a Section 7A title and advanced to True Team state. The Pierz boys were fourth.

The Holdingford boys also advanced to state true team with a win last night in Holdingford. The Huskers girls finished fifth.

Lastly, the Little Falls boys took fifth place and the girls team finished sixth in their section at Detroit Lakes.

In baseball action, Little Falls swept the season series with Cathedral with a 5-3 victory in Little Falls last night. Pierz beat Paynesville 10-1. USA took down Royalton 7-3 in Upsala last night.

Little Falls softball earned its third win of the year with a 1-0 shutout of Zimmerman at Little Falls. Pierz softball won 12-0 in five innings against Paynesville. Swanville mercy-ruled Upsala, 11-1 in five innings. Royalton clobbered LPGE, 18-5 in five innings.

In golf action, the Pierz boys team finished fifth in a tightly-contested CMC meet hosted by Maple Lake at Whispering Pines. The top six teams were all within 10 strokes.

Late Monday: Royalton softball won 10-0 over Staples Motley.
