Swanville earns first win over Upsala

After 12 losses in a row, the Swanville softball team beat Upsala 11-1, Tuesday to earn its first win of the year.

Kiley Loven earned the win, striking out seven on the mound. She also went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Mackenzie Feuling also clubbed a double.

For Upsala, the game was the third of a three-game slide.

The Cardinals started that with a 12-6 loss to Royalton, May 5.

Royalton led 9-0, but the Cardinals scored six in the bottom of the fourth to tighten up the game.

However, the Royals buckled down and earned a six-run win.

Brooklyn Pekarek led the Royals by smacking two hits, scoring twice and driving in two runs.

Senior Ali Tresco went the distance on the mound, not allowing an earned run.

For Upsala, Jenna Ripplinger drove in three runs, and Laura Lange was 3-for-3 at the plate.

Upsala lost again at home against Milaca, 11-0, in five innings.

The Royals followed the win over Upsala with another a 10-0 shutout of Staples-Motley, Monday.

Jenna Carlson pitched a complete game shutout, striking out nine. She also had two hits, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Amy Neu had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Senior Jordyn Bzdok stole three bases.

Royalton clobbered Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, 18-5, Tuesday in five innings.

Macey Petron scored three times and drove in four more runs in the victory. Pekarek added three runs and three RBIs.

Royalton has won eight in a row.

Swanville had preceded the victory over Upsala with a pair of losses. First, the Bulldogs fell 3-9 against Browerville/Eagle Valley.

Avery Jackson had two RBIs in the loss.

The Bulldogs then fell 3-7 against Milaca, Monday.

Abby Kurowski had a triple in defeat.

Upcoming for the teams: Upsala (5-7) will play a home doubleheader against Crosby Ironton in game one and Kimball in game two; Swanville (1-12) will host BBE, Tuesday and Royalton (10-2) hosts Isle, Tuesday.
