Pierz names its top five honors students for 2017

     The top five of the 96 students who will graduate from Pierz Healy High School have been named. They include:

Abby Athman is the salutatorian for the class of 2017. She is the daughter of Bill and Lynn Athman. During her high school career, Athman was involved in tennis, dance, band, choir, Student Council, Minnesota Honor Society (MHS) and drama.

Athman plans to attend the University of Northwestern in St. Paul to earn a four-year degree.

Kacy Broschofsky, daughter of Joanne and Keith Broschofsky, is the co-valedictorian for the Class of 2017. During high school, Broschofsky was involved in basketball, track, volleyball, National Honor Society, Where Everyone Belongs (WEB), Student Athlete Leadership Team (SALT), speech, Business Professionals of America (BPA), Spanish Club, jazz choir, musicals, plays, Student Council, Peer Helping, choir and band.

Broschofsky plans to attend the University of Minnesota – Duluth, with a minor in Spanish and a major in a field such as speech pathology.

Tori Fleischhacker is the daughter of Allen and Andrea Fleischhacker. She was involved in tennis, basketball, SALT, WEB and MHS.

She plans to attend St. Cloud State University to pursue a general business degree.

Adam Kroll is the co-valedictorian for the Class of 2017. He is the son of Duane and Linda Kroll and was involved in FFA, jazz band, concert band, choir, drama and MHS.

Kroll plans to attend North Dakota State University to pursue a degree in agricultural economics.

Sarah Thommes is the daughter of Brian and Lois Thommes. During her high school career, Thommes was involved in Peer Helping, Spanish Club, youth group, pep band, senior high band, tennis, BPA, pit band, MHS, Knowledge Bowl and jazz band I and II.

She plans to attend the College of St. Benedict to major in financial accounting with a minor in communications.

Graduation ceremonies for the Pierz graduates will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, in the Memorial Athletic Center (MAC). The class flower is a peppermint carnation; the class song, “Tattoos on this Town” by Jason Aldean; class motto: “We didn’t know we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun,” – Winnie the Pooh; and class colors are crimson, charcoal and platinum.
