Leonard William Drew, 85, of Randall, died Monday, June 5, 2017, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Leonard will be held Friday, June 9, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, with Father Jimmy Joseph officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, from 4 p.m.- 8 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at the Parish cemetery.
Leonard was born March 31, 1932, in Sobieski, to William and Cecelia (Ringwelski) Drew. In 1938 his family moved to Randall, where he attended school. He married MaryAnn Gaffke, Aug. 10, 1953. She passed away in 2000. He worked for Larson Boats until he was drafted to the Korean War. After the war, he returned to Larson Boats until he accepted the job of City Clerk in Randall. He worked for 30 years there until he retired and in his spare time he painted houses. After retiring he was a school bus driver. In 2003 he married Marie Moran Kempenich. Leonard enjoyed bingo, woodworking, puzzles, road trips and playing pull tabs. He also liked to go fishing and hunting. Leonard cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He was a charter member of the Randall-Cushing Area Lions Club since 1985 and also a life member of the Randall VFW. Leonard was a retired Randall fireman and also an usher at St. James Catholic Church. Leonard will be remembered for his Irish humor and witty one liners.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Marie; daughters, Cynthia (Jeff) Dahl of New London, Debbie (Peter) Wippler of Randall, Diane (Anthony) Trear of Corina, Calif., and Lorie (Tim) Strack of Randall; sons, Michael (Diane) Drew of Randall and Patrick Drew of Monticello; 25 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; step-children, Sherry (Greg) Norton of Pillager, Mike (Lori) Kempenich of Little Falls, Anita (Steve) Larsen of Little Falls, Craig (Yvonne) Kempenich of Randall and Diane (Bob) Fitzgerald of Bemidji; six step- grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild; sisters, Loretta Pelzer of Swanville, and Patty Riter of Anoka; brother, Denny (Sheila) Drew of Coon Rapids; and sister-in-law, Louise Bauer Drew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cecelia; first wife, MaryAnn; great-grandson, Alex Pugh; brother, Gene Drew; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Pelzer.
