Naomi H. (Larsen) Engel, age 78, Little Falls, MN, returned to her heavenly home on July 1, 2017. Naomi was born on Mother’s Day, May 14, 1939, in Hunter, N.D. to Roy and Hilda (Stockmoe) Larsen. Naomi graduated from Hunter High School in 1957, as valedictorian of the Huskers. She was also Homecoming Queen her senior year. She participated in band, choir and earned state honors in both trio and clarinet solos. She was a supreme court justice in ND Girls State. Naomi met her husband, Larry, in the summer of 1956, at Herb Johnson’s Barn. Naomi followed Larry to Mayville State Teacher’s College in the fall of 1957. They both graduated in the Spring of 1959, Naomi with honors. She was active in many organizations, especially Lutheran Student Association. Larry proposed marriage to Naomi on the same day she was crowned Mayville State Homecoming Queen in the Fall of 1958. They were married on August 16, 1959. Naomi taught fourth grade in Lehr, N.D. for one and one half years, resigning when Lola Lee was expected. In the Fall of 1961, she and Larry moved to Hendricks, MN; 1965 to Red Lake Falls, MN; and Little Falls, MN in 1970. Naomi was a stay-at-home mom for 15 years with part time daycare, Tupperware representative, church custodian and Welcome Wagon greeter. Naomi was a paraprofessional with the Little Falls School District for several years. At age 45, she graduated from St. Cloud State University with honors. Besides days as mother and wife, she taught kindergarten for 15 years, and was employee of the month while at Lincoln Elementary School. Naomi was always active at First Lutheran Church leading bible studies, Sunday School and served on the council. Naomi was a member of the Stephen Ministry, attended classes at Luther Seminary and she was confirmed an associate pastor. She was also an associate member of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls. Naomi served as fill-in pastor at many surrounding area churches. Naomi worked for Comfort Keepers for five years sharing her tender heart with many people. She devoted her life to serving others; the most caring and loving person to her family, friends and anyone who would sit and visit with her. Naomi will always be remembered for her joyful spirit and deep faith in Jesus Christ. Her family adored her; husband, A. Larry Engel; daughters, Lola (Jack) Faufau; and Gwen (Mathew) Welinski, both in Little Falls; sons, Stephen (Kristan) Engel, Monticello, MN; and Daniel (Julie) Engel, Minnetonka, MN. Her eight grandchildren had many great times riding in grandma’s convertible: Katie (Nick) Wippler; Lukas Faufau, Marre, Lindy and Joey Welinski; Samuel and David Engel; Elizabeth Engel; and great- granddaughter, Lydia Kate Wippler. Brother John Larsen, Pelican Rapids, MN; and sister, Fern Smith, West Fargo, N.D. Naomi will reunite in heaven with parents, Roy and Hilda Larsen, and brother, Dean Larsen. Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church, Little Falls, Friday, July 14, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.; service celebrating Naomi’s life will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2:00 p.m. also at First Lutheran Church.
