A sweep of Crosby-Ironton (CI), July 6, closed the shortened regular season for the Pierz Legion baseball team without a defeat.
Pierz escaped with an 8-5 win in the team’s closest win of the year in game one.
Pierz trailed 4-3, but scored three in the top of the fourth to take the lead over CI for good.
Alec Lochner earned the win on the hill, striking out 10 and allowing three earned runs on five hits in six innings of work.
Luke Girtz led the offense with two hits, including a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Preston Rocheleau had a three-hit day for Pierz, driving in two runs.
Pierz won game two over CI, 7-0, in a shortened, four-inning game. Darkness ended the game early.
Thomas Funk didn’t allow a hit in three innings, but did walk six for Pierz.
Jesse Marshik drove in two runs and scored to pace the Pierz offense. Jack Suska scored twice for Pierz.
Pierz Legion played against Aitkin for the sub-district title, Friday, but results were unavailable by press time.
The winner will move on to play in the District Tournament, that goes from Thursday to Sunday, July 23 at Elrosa and Sauk Centre.
Division II Legion State begins Thursday, July 27 and runs through July 30 at New London-Spicer.
