Plenty of playoff baseball action dominated the area sports scene over the weekend.
Starting in Legion baseball, the Pierz legion team moved on to the district tournament with a sub-district title win, 9-4, over Aitkin Friday, July 14.
Little Falls legion toppled St. Augusta, 9-1, Sunday, July 16, to continue on in the district tournament bracket.
Pierz will play its opening district game at 11 a.m., Thursday, against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.
Little Falls plays against the St. Cloud 76ers at 4 p.., this afternoon (June 17).
On to Victory League division playoff action, the top four seeds from each division went unbeaten.
In the East, Buckman cruised a 10-2 win over the Pierz Bulldogs, Saturday, July 15, and a 7-1 victory over Lastrup, Sunday, July 16. Lastrup had beaten the Pierz Brewers 4-1, Saturday. The Bulldogs eliminated the Brewers with a 9-4 upset victory.
Lastrup will host the Bulldogs in a region qualifying game. The winner has to beat Buckman twice to earn the division playoff crown.
In West action, Sobieski won twice, beating Flensburg 15-1 in seven innings, Saturday and winning 10-2 over Upsala, Sunday. Upsala had coasted past Randall, 8-1, Saturday. Randall then eliminated Flensburg in a 9-8 game over 10 innings of ball, Sunday.
Randall will travel to play Upsala at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 22 for a region play-in game. The winner has to beat the Skis twice to win the West.
Ft. Ripley clobbered Cuyuna, 14-3, Saturday, and Nisswa 10-0 (7 inn.), Sunday, to put themselves in the driver’s seat in the North.
In the North, Ft. Ripley will await the winner of Nisswa and Aitkin for a title shot, Sunday, July 23.
