Pierz Legion wins Division II baseball title

The Pierz Legion baseball team got a little revenge as they went undefeated on the way to a Division II Legion State victory.

Pierz catcher Matt Kummet shows the ump the ball after tagging out a Proctor runner in the DII Legion Title game.

Pierz won 7-4 in game one thanks to a three-run bomb by Noah Boser over Giant Valley. The game was a bit of revenge for Pierz as Giant Valley was made up of mostly players from Minnehaha Academy, who beat the Pierz Pioneers in the Class AA baseball Championship in June.

Pierz won twice on Saturday, beating host New London-Spicer, 7-0, placing them as the No. 2 seed in bracket play. In game two, Pierz played No. 3 Caledonia. Pierz led most of the game, but Caledonia tied it up in the seventh and sent it to extras. Matt Kummet hit a game-winning RBI single to advance to the Championship.

Pierz pulled off the Championship with a 5-1 win over Proctor. Boser jacked his third bomb of the tournament in the game, and it helped earn him tournament MVP honors.

Pierz advances to play in the Central Region Tournament next weekend in Wahpeton, N.D.
