Reynold 'Rey' Edward Benusa

Reynold “Rey” Edward Benusa, 81, of Three Forks, MT, passed away Sunday morning, July 16, 2017, at the MMHNCC care center in Lewistown, MT where he was a resident for the past 2 years.
Rey was born to Edward and Gertrude (Maciej) Benusa on January 29, 1936 on the family farm in Morrison County, MN, where he attended school in both Bowlus and Royalton MN. He graduated from Royalton High School in 1954. Immediately after high school, Rey joined the Army and was stationed in Germany for 2 years. After a couple of years working with the Lamaur Corporation in Minneapolis, Rey returned to the Bowlus area and married Joan Mary Witucki on July 8, 1959 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Bowlus.
Following an interest in pharmacy, Rey entered North Dakota State School of Pharmacy receiving his degree in 1963. After working as a pharmacist in Danville, IL and at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN, the young family made the move that would define much of the rest of their lives as they moved to the Gallatin Valley in 1976. For 16 years Rey and Joan, along with their children, ran and operated the Manhattan Drug Pharmacy and the small motel business. Those years were followed by the opportunity to move the business to Three Forks, MT, which they did in 1992, operating the Three Forks Pharmacy and Gift Shop on Main Street for another 14 years, retiring and closing the business in 2006.
Rey always enjoyed his polka music and dances, so he and Joan attended many polka festivals in Montana, Minnesota, North Dakota and Wyoming. It was even Rey’s choice of music during the many hours spent in the Manhattan and Three Forks pharmacies.
Rey is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan and their four children; Father Jeffrey Benusa of Thompson Falls, MT, Lisa (Tim) Dyksterhouse of Churchill, Ann (Dan) Heisler of Manhattan, and Robert (Denise) Benusa of Singapore. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren; Trent Dyksterhouse, Kayla (Trevor) Dalin, Kendal (Jessica) Dyksterhouse, Kieran Cowan, Tara (Austin) Zenner, Tim Cowan, Quinn Benusa, and the two great- grandchildren, Jocelyn Dalin and Luna Zenner; along with many nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings are brothers David (Roberta) Benusa of Denver, CO, Arnold “Punky” (Margie) Benusa of Royalton, MN; sisters Renée Benusa of Minneapolis, MN, Bev (Tim) Riesner of Avon, MN and sister-in-law Genny Benusa of Little Falls, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Roger Benusa.
The funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish in Three Forks with Father Jeff Benusa, and Father Eric Gilbaugh celebrating.
