Flyers swept by Patriots on new home court

The Little Falls volleyball team’s celebration of a new gym floor was spoiled at the hands of Pequot Lakes, Tuesday, as the Patriots upended the Flyers, 3-0.

Little Falls dropped the first set, 20-25, despite leading most of the way in the set. The Flyers fell behind 21-19 and were unable to come back after that.

The second set was tied at 11 at one point, but the Flyers fell behind 20-13. Little Falls battled back to within three, but that was as close as they’d get, and would fall 25-19.

The Patriots used the momentum of the two wins to close out the match, 25-19.

Senior Sophia Sowada led the Flyers with eight kills, while junior libero Allie Steinmetz had a team-best 16 digs.

Little Falls did earn its third win, beating Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE), 3-1, Aug. 31.

The Flyers dropped game one, 22-25, but won straight sets, 25-20, 25-15 and 25-19.

Senior Sydney Berg was a big reason why. The Flyers’ outside hitter smacked a team-best 14 kills and added 12 digs and three aces.

Fellow senior Rachel Tembruell had eight kills and four aces.

Junior setter Kailey Ginter had 27 set-assists and 10 digs in the win.

Little Falls (3-1) will host Foley, Tuesday.


Holdingford splits matches

     Holdingford’s volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches.

The Huskers beat Albany in five sets, Tuesday, winning the odd sets, 25-23, 25-21 and 16-14.

Senior Rilee Hohbein had a team-high 17 kills.

The Huskers were swept by Annandale, Aug. 31.

The Cardinals won 27-25, 25-18 and 25-17.

Holdingford (2-1) will travel to play at Eden Valley-Watkins, Thursday.
