To the Editor:
I must say, I am quite disappointed with Gov. Dayton’s “all or nothing” approach to balancing the budget. I do not understand the mentality that we can just keep taxing “the rich.”
My husband and I both work (thank God) and as we sit down each week to look at our budget and pay bills, we fully understand that we can only spend that which we have. We can’t run to our neighbors (who have more money than we do) and demand they pay for our spending.
That is exactly what Dayton is doing. It’s not about how much you make, it’s about how much you spend. In 2009, my husband and I were both laid off on the same day and we knew that we would have tough decisions to be made; things needed to be cut, and we did it. If we want to spend more, we need to earn more, not take more from those who have more.
I am thankful we have a true statesman, Paul Gazelka, at the capitol that represents this logical thinking as well. Get your hands out of my pockets, that’s enough change already. — Brenda Stroh-schein, Motley
