Byron Smith moved back to Little Falls a few years ago, and was living in the family home on Elm Street, a few miles north of the city. A burglary at his home Thanksgiving Day proved fatal for cousins Nick Brady, 17, and Haile Kifer, 18. Smith’s home, which faces the Mississippi River on the west side, had been allegedly burglarized several times over the summer and fall of 2012. The keep out sign was placed outside the home after Smith was arrested and charged with the murder of Brady and Kifer.
