The purchase of a used fire truck was briefly discussed during the meeting. Fire Chief Craig Seelen proposed pre-authorizing the purchase of a used fire engine truck for up to $100,000 if one became available at auction. Seleen asked for the pre-authorization because there have been instances where the ability to purchase a truck at auction has been lost because of waiting for a council meeting for bidding or purchase approval, Seelen said. Seelen noted that any truck purchased at auction would be inspected and vetted by the fire department.
“We’re very fortunate. We have some mechanically oriented people in the department. That’s the beauty of paid on call fire departments. You get people from all walks of life, and we’re fortunate to have a few people that have that background,” Seelen said.
